2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show – Part 3: The Cakes

Cake fans, this one’s for you!

I had no intention of having a separate cake blog post to match Part 1: The Animals and Part 2: The People, but the cake decorating competitions at the Sydney Royal Easter Show were so amazing and I took so many photos, that it warranted its own post.

The creators of these cakes are brilliantly artistic and clever. I hope you enjoy!

And finally, baking. I bet these competitions were hard fought!

Which cake is your favourite?

I adore the first one of the cow. That’s a crackup. They’re all pretty impressive though. I can’t imagine how low they took to craft. These people have more patience, not to mention skill, than me, that’s for sure. A great showing.

    Hi Cathryn

Can you imagine how many hours went into all of these they are amazing and my favourite one is the books 🙂

    Thanks for the photos

    Have Fun

Great pics, thanks for sharing. So much talent. I have to say my favourite is the books as well although the rusty/dusty ute and the lizard were very clever.

Glad you enjoyed them, Tricia. I was blown away and spent going from cabinet to cabinet. The books one is wonderful, I agree, but I can’t help loving the humour of the cow. The goanna (?) was incredibly realistic. It must have taken hours and hours of labour to create its individual scales.

I have to agree. The spotted cow is brilliant. It gets the nod even over the book cake and I never thought I would hear myself say that!

Oh good! I’m glad someone agrees with me, Laura. Admittedly the books one is really clever and must have taken a mammoth amount of time to complete but I LOVE the cow. It’s so funny!

The cow one is funny but the others just have so much more detail, the intricacies are just stunning and unbelievable. My favourite of all is the square blocks of cake with all the scroll work with the colourful heart scrolled onto the big chunky square. Amazing work! The lizard, treehouse, and books are awesome as well, oh hell they’re all astounding!

Lovely pictures Cathryn. I didn’t go this year as I don’t enjoy crowds, so I’m glad you sacrificed yourself to take great photos. The cow is awesome.

Rah! Another fan of the cow. I adore that cake. It makes me smile whenever I look at it.
Glad you enjoyed the pics, Cathleen. The day I went it was stormy and not terribly pleasant so the crowds stayed away. Suited me perfectly!
