Cover of Summer and the Groomsman by Cathryn HeinSo what giveaway am I offering?

How about a signed print copy of the utterly charming rural romance novella Summer and the Groomsman? You will love this story. It’s gorgeous, not to mention a lot of fun, and has the added bonus of featuring hat-tipping Mr Sexy on the cover.

But that’s not all!

Because it’s Australia Day, and because I’m feeling all summery and cheery, I’m going to throw in a signed copy of my debut rural release Promises. I adore this story. It’s beautifully romantic, with lots of horses, secrets and drama in a fabulous setting.

But you’ll have to work a little to be in the giveaway. Nothing too onerous because that wouldn’t be in the spirit of things, would it? No, all you have to do is reveal what you’ll be scoffing (or want to be scoffing) this Australia Day.

Promises by Cathryn HeinDo you hanker for snags or a lamb chop on the barbie, or can’t wait for a great glistening platter of fresh seafood? Perhaps a pavlova or lamington sugar-high is on your agenda, or even the deep-fried awesomeness of a Chiko Roll! Whatever Australia Day fare you’re indulging in or wish you were having, share it in the comments below and I’ll pop you into the draw to win the above book package.

Please note: Australian postal addresses only. Giveaway opens midday AEDT, Sunday January 24th, 2016 and closes midnight AEDT on Wednesday January 27th, 2016. Winner notified by email within 7 days of closing date and announced in the comments.

    Hey Cathryn,
Thanks so much for offering such an amazing giveaway. This Australia Day I’ll be scoffing down some Scampi. I think all of my sisters have given up their original Aust. Day plans just so we are home for Scampi. It’s my job tomorrow to track down some of the bigger lamingtons too – for some reason the smaller ones just don’t taste the same! And I’m sure to honour the day I’ll have some vegemite on toast in there sometime, because let’s face it, who can go back vegemite and melted butter on a hot piece of freshly cooked toast? Not me that’s for sure!

    Have an awesome week 🙂

100% agree with you, Jess. The larger ones taste soo much better! But I also enjoy the fingers, it’s a different taste and isn’t a real lamington so it’s ok 😛

Hi Cathryn, thanks for the awesome giveaway. This year I definitely will be devouring as many lamingtons as I can. The current debate in our house is whether to make ANZAC bikkies or lamingtons but I fear the ANZAC bikkies will win because they are simpler, which means I need to head to a shop soon and get some packets of the coconut coated delights! Have a great Australia Day!

ANZAC biscuits are definitely the easier option. Lamingtons can be so messy! Tasty though…

You have a good one too, and all the best in the draw.

    Fabulous thank you.

A platter of fresh fruit beckons. Ice-cold watermelon tops the list. Nothing better.

    Hi! Cathryn,

Thanks for the amazing giveaway. Loved Rocking horse hill and I’m sure – Summer and the Groomsman will be even a more gorgeous read. A platter of fresh seafood barbecued is on the agenda in our family for Australia Day and of course Lamingtons and Tim Tam. Happy Australia Day !

Oh, lovely re Rocking Horse Hill, Jessy. That’s great to hear. Summer and the Groomsman is a hoot and set around Josh’s and Em’s wedding, so you get all the favourite characters as well as some new ones.

      Barbecued seafood…. mmmmmmmm. Fabulous choice.

      Good luck!

I’m combining my Italian heritage with my Australian summer one by making a berry version of tira mi su, with pink Rose de Rennes sponge fingers, champagne, mascarpone, ricotta, and lots of strawberries and raspberries.

Actually, I’m doing that right now, but am confident we will have enough to see us through to Tuesday!

Absolutely a day for lamingtons! I was recently in America and made my hosts pavlova, lamingtons, meat pies and damper, and made them watch the 2015 AFL Grand Final. I had to explain what each food item signified to Australians. They were fascinated and very excited by it all — especially the lamingtons and pavlova. And then I got to explain AFL and why no one wore any safety helmets or padding compared to their pithy little NFL game!

Suffice to say, they are fully converted to Australian food, and Australian sport. (But I didn’t make them watch a full game of Test cricket — that’s for next time.) So for me, lamingtons are the best, most classic CWA-country-show-best-on-plate Australian food.

Another one for lamingtons. They’re sure proving popular. With good reason though.

What a blast doing that for your hosts! A truly wonderful idea. I bet you, and they, had a ball. I would have loved to have heard their comments re AFL.

      Thanks and good luck!

I think I’ll spend the day with a packet of TimTams that have been hiding in the fridge since Christmas. I might have to hide in the laundry or behind a door to eat them in peace though. 😉

  8. AvatarKaryn D

Have just thoroughly enjoyed Rocking Horse Hill and Heartland. On Australia day I’ll be enjoying more aussie rural novels whilst relaxing and enjoying my Vegemite toast and a cuppa.

  9. AvatarBec Brown

You cant be Aussie and not have a traditional Pav with the crust on the outside and soft merange on the inside plus aussie fruit on top

A book giveaway blog hop sounds like so much fun. Thanks for your fantastic giveaway, Cathryn! If I were to win I already have your wonderful Summer so you could choose another winner but Promises is all mine, hehe, I love that book but I don’t have it.

We might head down to the harbour where all the Australia Day festivities will be happening and whatever food is on offer we’ll be scoffing that down.

    Enjoy Australia Day, Cathryn!

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

That sounds and excellent plan, Sue. Provided the weather behaves. It hasn’t been much fun lately with all these storms. But at least there’s bound to be great food on offer for you.

      Thanks and good luck!

  11. AvatarAmanda Barrett

Happy Austtralia Day Cathryn and many thanks for the giveaway. My Australia Day celebrations would not be complete without a batch of homemade cheesy vegemite scrolls, yum!

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

With lashings of butter, Veronica, just to make it truly scumptious. Enjoy your day at the Pioneer Village. Sounds a wonderful trip.

All the best in the draw.

  12. AvatarBrenda

Thanks for the opportunity Cathryn 🙂 We are having a family Aussie Day, with home made burgers and snags on the barbie! And of course a beverage or two 😉 Have a great day yourself! x

    Hi Cathryn,
Love the cover of your book.
We made Vietnamese cold rolls for lunch and we will be having Kransky sausages for tea. A bit multicultural just like Australia.
Oh look almost time for a coffee and some lamingtons. Orange flavoured lamingtons that taste like Jaffas.
    Happy Australia Day.

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

Anne-Marie, your Australia Day food sounds such fun and, as you say, a wonderful reflection of our multicultural society. Rather wish I was having Vietnamese spring rolls for dinner but I don’t have any rice paper in the cupboard at the moment (rotten supermarket was out of stock when I went to buy some last week, grrr). They’re so tasty and healthy. Very jealous of your lunch.
Orange-flavoured lamingtons? I might have to track some of these down. YUM!

Thanks for dropping by and all the best in the draw.

What an amazing giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.

We had cheese and vegemite toasties for breakfast, and bought Chiko rolls to have for lunch, but then we went to the beach and forgot about them. So now we’re having a roast lamb for dinner.

I hope you have a great Australia Day 🙂

  15. AvatarMichelle Page

We enjoyed having sausages on the barbie and watching the kids in the pool ( big and little ones😊). Happy Australia Day x

  16. AvatarSarah ellwood

We had home made pizza using greek yogurt and flour for the base and tomatoes from our garden. Simple and easy for a relaxed australia day.

  17. AvatarStacey

I wish I had a BBQ at the beach for Australia Day, but instead I was doing a bit of painting at home!

This giveaway has now closed. Thanks to everyone who took the time to drop by and share your Australia Day fare. You all ate very well!!

Congratulations to Wendy S who is our winner. A book pack containing signed copies of PROMISES and SUMMER AND THE GROOMSMAN will be winging its way to her soon, just in time for some Valentine’s romance.

Thanks again and keep on reading!
