Teaser TuesdayWelcome to Teaser Tuesday, the blog series where I share snippets from past and upcoming releases, and works-in-progress, and occasionally con author mates into joining in the fun.

Today I’m thrilled to welcome back historical romance author Anna Campbell. Regular followers will know what an Anna Campbell fangirl I am but here’s a tale for you. I’d never read an historical romance until I won a copy of Anna’s Tempt the Devil on a blog. I loved it and was so hooked I gobbled up all Anna’s previous novels and every release since. I’ve also gone on to read lots of other historical romance authors and fallen in love the with genre. All because of a book I won on a blog.

This, too, could be YOU. Yes, lovelies, there’s a giveaway. In fact, there are TWO GIVEAWAYS. So please give a hearty welcome to Anna and read on.

Author Anna CampbellHi Cathryn! Thank you so much for having me as your guest today. I love the Teaser Tuesday spot – it’s so great to get that delicious little taste of a book!

Winning Lord West, the third book in my Dashing Widows series, comes out on 30th April. I loved writing this story of childhood sweethearts reunited. If you’ve read the previous books in the series, The Seduction of Lord Stone and Tempting Mr. Townsend, you’ll know that Lady Crewe and Lord West have been circling each other for quite a while. It was great fun finally to bring them together.

The teaser takes place at a country house party before Silas and Caroline’s wedding. And I think this time round you can definitely say this is a teaser!

Fed up with Helena avoiding him, West invades her bedroom late one night. He wants to talk to her, but that’s not quite how things work out as attraction flares and sends good intentions right out the window!

“It’s a good thing I never knew what was under those dauntingly stylish gowns, or you’d have found yourself compromised well before this,” West said. “It was hard enough keeping my hands off you anyway.”

Helena looked gratifyingly intrigued. “Really?”

“Yes, really,” he said, as though he swore his life away. He drew a hairpin from the mass of black hair coiled at her nape. “With your hair like this, you remind me of a renaissance princess.”

Her mouth, red with kisses, quirked with familiar, endearing humor. “Lucretia Borgia?”

Winning Lord West by Anna Campbell“Someone a little less murderous.” He removed two more pins. A silky skein of black snaked down across her shoulder. Delicately he lifted it and brought it to his lips, breathing deep. Her rich scent flooded his senses. Smoky. Female. Unforgettable. So true to the woman she was.

Through the busy years, and lovers who had meant far too little, as he now recognized with regret, he’d never forgotten Helena. She was endlessly fascinating, extraordinary. Salty and satisfying, where sugar palled.

She responded to his kiss with pleasing swiftness, and his brief kiss turned into something long and profound. He buried his hands in her hair. When he drew away, it tumbled loose around her slender shoulders.

He nibbled a path down her neck, feeling her shiver, as he disposed of corset and shift. At last he set his hands on her naked body. “You’re beautiful.”

She raised her chin and faced him proudly. Tall. Slender. Long-legged. Graceful as a young goddess. “I’m glad you like me.”

“I’ve always liked you.” His smile was wry. “Haven’t you worked that out yet?”

She didn’t answer. That was all right. Soon she’d admit her fondness for him.

While West took off his trousers, Helena perched on the bed to remove slippers and stockings. The sight of her bare calves and feet enthralled him. Odd how random, seemingly insignificant moments kept catching him on the raw.

Tomorrow he’d ponder reasons. Right now, Helena awaited. He cast away the last of his clothing and strode toward the lovely woman, watching wide-eyed from the luxurious bed.

    Hi Cathryn! Hi Anna!

I so can’t wait to get stuck into these books, I’m waiting until I have them all.

Anna, I have a few of your books on my bookshelf some of them are coming with me when we head up north with caravan in tow next week. I’m hoping to get lots of reading in unless Steven drags me away to go exploring.

Please don’t put me in the draw, I think I have Winning Lord West on pre- order.

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Sue, not long until all three are out! I’m not sure if you know, but the first three Dashing Widows have done so well, I’m actually going to write at least three more. You might find a few hints as to heroes and heroines when you read Winning Lord West! Have a lovely holiday up north – stormy here today on the Sunshine Coast but still a really nice temperature. Hope you fit in both reading AND exploring! Thanks for swinging by.

A caravan trip north would be the perfect time to get into Anna’s books, Sue. You’ll have a ball!
Wishing you both a great time.

As for THREE more for the series, wheeeeeeeeeee!

  2. AvatarGlenda

I do enjoy reunion romances but can’t think of one particular favorite right now. Why are they so popular? I think it’s because so many people wonder ‘what if’ about their own past loves, they like to read about successful relationships with reunited flames.

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Glenda, I hadn’t thought of that – but you’re right. It’s kind of like rehearsing getting back together with the one that got away, isn’t it? Great comment! Thanks for swinging by!

      1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

I think that’s a great theory, Glenda. Especially when it comes to those special first loves.

Thanks so much for dropping by and all the best in the draw.

Hi Cathryn and Anna! Lovely to see you two together. I just wanted to pop in and rave about Winning Lord West. It’s so sexy and fun with all of the banter Anna does so well, but it has her signature emotional resonance, too. I’m still sighing over Lord West!

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Christine, thank you so much! I’m smiling all over my face at hearing you say such nice things – you were one of the very first people to see the completed version! It was a fun story to write – it’s nice when your protagonists can’t keep their hands off each other!

        1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

That’s great to hear, Christine. I do love a couple of at-it-like-rabbits characters. They’re always fun and Anna does sex so well.

In books, that is. I,er, don’t know anything about her… you know. But we all know what a talented gal she is!!

  4. AvatarMichele Medema

Anna I can’t wait till it releases then I can hunker down and read them all. I am extremely excited, and I am sure you are as well 🙂 big day coming Yesss!!!

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Michele, it’s tomorrow in Australia! VERY excited! Thanks for saying you’re looking forward to it too – it’s been interesting looking at all three. In my mind, they read a bit like a full-length now they’re all out. Thanks for swinging by!

        1. AvatarMichele Medema

Oh I can imagine read “a pirate for christmas” and laughed so much. Was such a great read. 🙂

  5. AvatarBeth

Casablanca,is remarkable, love the idea that no matter what true love renights,so many possibilities to explore

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

Endless possibilities, Beth. Casablanca is hard to go past though, isn’t it? So romantic. Sigh.

Thanks for dropping by and good luck!

      1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Oh, that’s the classic reunion romance, Beth! Great choice. Even if it doesn’t have a happy ending, it’s still one of the most romantic things I’ve ever seen.

  6. AvatarJennifer becker

I love reunion romances. They are a symbol that love is never lost just simply misplaced for a time until it becomes the right time and that everyone deserves a second chance. My favorite examples are from Julia Quinn’s Everything and the Moon and Jennifer Haymore’s Confession of an Improper Bride.

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

“…a symbol that love is never lost just simply misplaced for a time until it becomes the right time…”
Oh! That is so beautiful I want to pinch it!
      Lovely. Jennifer. Good luck.

    1. AvatarJennifer Becker

They are fantastic books and you’ll easily get sucked in! Your heart will break with them and you’ll be cheering for them.

  7. AvatarTina Hairston

I like some reunion romances. I can’t say they are my favorite only because in some instances more time passes that is wasted when things could’ve been resolved WAY sooner if the H/h had only just communicated with each other, lol.

Everyone wants a 2nd chance to fix something they’ve regretted so that’s why they are some of my favorite stories.

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

Tina, I agree – I think what keeps the couple apart has to be more than something that can be solved with a short conversation. One thing I like with reunion romances is that time often has such a beneficial effect. At a later stage, they’ve grown and learned enough about life to realize what they had in the other person.

  8. AvatarCassie P

Loved the excerpt, Anna. The wicked lord West sounds most intriguing. Looking forward to reading this one.

      1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

There’s something very sexy sounding about a wicked lord, Cassie. And, as we Anna fans know, she does them brilliantly!

  9. AvatarMake Kay

Yes, I do enjoy reunion stories! My favorite is when Claire goes back in time to reunion to be with Jamie Fraser

      1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

Don’t worry, Anna, I haven’t read it either. But I did watch the telly series. That Jamie… drool. Definitely someone worth going back in time for.
Thanks for joining in the fun, Kay.

    1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

The giveaway has now closed. Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun. Some truly gorgeous comments.
Congratulations to Make Kay and Beth Caves who have each won a Kindle copy of WINNING LORD WEST. Happy reading, ladies!

    1. AvatarAnna Campbell

You know, Mary, I haven’t written one of those – I’ve had a Scottish earl in Yorkshire getting a reunion in The Winter Wife. I’ll have to start moving a bit further north!

      1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

Ooh, I wouldn’t mind a Scottish one either, Mary. Anna? If you don’t mind… And feel free to throw in a kilt or two.

  10. AvatarMariea Gillespie

True love will always find a way home. We may not be ready for the first chance. Fate has a way of teasing us. If love comes around again it usually is stronger than any others.

  11. AvatarCharlotte Litton

I think reunion stories are popular because they give us hope if a happy ever after.

      1. Cathryn HeinCathryn Hein Post author

Ah, hope. It’s one of those irrepressible things, isn’t it, Charlotte. The great thing about reading romance is that we know it’s going to end happily.
