Yikes! It’s nearly the end of January. This month just whooshed by, didn’t it? Must be because we’re having so much fun with this Long and the Short Reviews Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge.

Week four sees us with another interesting topic

Best Book/Movie/TV Couples

Hooly-dooly, where to start with this one!

Best book/movie/TV couples? Gawd, they’ve been a bazillion of them over the years. Gorgeous heroes and heroines who’ve left me feeling sappy and gooey and warm and fuzzy.

I’m going to blow my own trumpet and say that all my book couples are best to me. I love every one of them, but my absolute worst crush was on Lachie from Heart of the Valley. Far out, I adore that man. Tristan from April’s Rainbow runs a very close second for crushiness.

Enough of me glorifying my own characters. Time to move on to others.

Okay, I’ll nominate Joan Wilder and Jack Colton in Romancing the Stone. That film has everything. Laughs, drama, intrigue and a gorgeous romance that leaves me grinning every time I watch it. Hugely entertaining and with all the feels. A classic.

Remember the BBC television series Hamish McBeth? It was on in the 90s and starred Robert Carlyle as police constable Hamish McBeth and his terrier Wee Jock. The tension between Hamish and local journalist Isobel Sutherland was brilliant. I was so addicted to this show. The Scottish setting and accents were fabulous, and it was so damn quirky! Loved the show and loved this couple.

Ballykissangel boxed set I could probably add Irish series Ballykissangel in here too. The relationship between Father Clifford and Assumpta Fitzgerald was deliciously forbidden. I loved that too. Until the final episode, which I won’t tell you about in case you ever see the series, but what the producers did was UNFORGIVABLE. I cried for a week!

Another couple I adore is Rupert Campbell-Black and Taggie O’Hara from Jilly Cooper’s Rivals. Rupert is so naughty yet he’s also completely Riders by Jilly Cooperirresistible. Riders, in which Rupert is introduced, is one of my all-time favourite reads and Rupert behaves very, very badly in that, which makes his comeuppance in Rivals all the more delicious. A super-rake felled by love? Poetic and oh so satisfying.

As I mentioned at the start, there are countless couples I’ve adored over the years. These are just a few, but I would love to hear yours.

Who are your favourite TV, book or movie couples?

Oooh, you must watch Romancing the Stone, Megan. The ending is fab! Very satisfying (unlike the series ending of Ballykissangel, which was a disaster).

This may be my favorite Blogging Challenge yet because I’m learning about so many couples I’ve never heard about, including the ones you’ve shared here!

Okay, yes, Romancing The Stone absolutely. And there’s nothing wrong with loving your own characters! I’m not familiar with your other examples, but they look like great fun.

    My list is here.

I’d agree with that, Patrick. It’s hard to keep sexual tension when we’ve already had our happy ever after ending but it was still huge fun!

Hi Cathryn! Well, this is a fun topic. I think my favourite recent couple of mine were Callum and Mhairi from The Highlander’s Defiant Captive. He was a Highlander and she was defiant – what else do you need?

Some other faves, not mine, include your Jack and Elsa from the gorgeous Elsa’s Stand. Others are Holly Golightly and Paul from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Who can resist Audrey H and George P in those roles? Actually I”m currently listening to the top 100 music in the movies on ABC Classic FM and they’ve just played Moon River so that may have influenced that choice!

Love Mrs. Muir and Captain Gregg in The Ghost and Mrs Muir. Love Hawkeye and Cora in The Last of the Mohicans. Love Baby and Johnny in Dirty Dancing. I could go on!

Isn’t it a cool topic, Anna?
Thank you so much for the Jack and Elsa love. I adore those two too and had a blast writing them. And I’ve adored all your couples too. I still have Dougal and Kirsty in my head. That was such a funny story.
Oh, I forgot about the Ghost and Mrs Muir. I loved those two growing up. He was so dishy!

Love this blog post! I had my three, well, four couples the moment I saw the topic, there was no thinking or umming and ahing lol. Book couple – Tatiana and Alexander from The Bronze Horseman. Movie couple – Chad and Miley from Blue Hawaii. TV couple – Mike and Carol from The Brady Bunch and Penny and Leonard from Big Bang Theory.
Other most favourite couples – Harry and Helen in True Lies. Danny and Sandy in Grease. Sam and Darrin in Bewitched. Tim and Jill in Home Improvement. Mike and Vanessa in Last Man Standing.

I have watched Romancing the Stone but I don’t remember any of it, must watch it again. I’ve never heard of Hamish McBeth or Ballykissangel, hope they’re on Netflix!

Oh bugger! How could I have forgotten Alexander and Tatiana? Those two were AMAZING! And Sandy and Dany from Grease too.
Great of favourites, Sue. And yes, you must watch Romancing the Stone again. And I really hope you get to see Hamish and Ballyk.
