This week’s topic:

The Reason I Stopped Reading a Series I Loved

Most of the time I don’t deliberately give up on series. It just happens. Like I come to the last book and have a twelve month wait for the next, and then get distracted by all the other pretty shiny books out there, and next thing you know it’s three years on and I haven’t picked the series back up.

Woman buried under booksHowever, I can think of a couple of series that I deliberately abandoned after the main protagonists got their happy ever after and married. For me, even though I adored the characters and their lives, and they would have had many more adventures ahead, that satisfying moment felt like a natural conclusion, and gave me an excuse to move on and start something else.

One thing I have noticed though, is that I rarely START a series if it has a bazillion books or every book is monster sized. It’s just too overwhelming.

Always the problem, isn’t it? So many brilliant books, so little reading time.

My favourite thing? A series with three or four or sometimes five books, not too fat, and so compelling I gobble them all at once. Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone Trilogy and Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy come to mind but there are plenty of others.

What series that you loved did you stop reading?
